Our Story

Having been born and raised above the current Fish & Chip shop, it is no real surprise that I have found myself continuing a family love affair with fish and chips which dates all the way back to 1949.

I am a second generation Fish fryer, I am proud of the local area and its rich history, I am proud of the history and tradition of our fish and chip shop and I am proud of the quality of fish & chips that we have served here at Lloyds for over 70 years.

Lloyds is now unrecognisable from the fish & chip shop my father first opened all those years ago but we have retained his ethos of sourcing the quality ingredients and frying to order so that our fish and chips is as fresh as possible when it hits the plate.

I hope people of Lampeter and the surrounding area will continue to enjoy our fish & chips as much as they have done over the past 70 years and that they take as much pleasure as my family and I have done in serving them.

1949 - My father, Herbert Alun Lloyd buys the Fish & Chip Shop at 4 Bridge Street to support his wife and 3 children, he re-brands as Lloyds Fish & Chips
1956 - Dad starts producing the famous Lloyds Rissole – a real hit with the locals, this secret family recipe is still followed to this very day
1959 - A bullock on the way from market crashes through the Fish & Chip shop window making headlines in the South Wales news columns and forcing father to make minor alterations to the shop
1962 - The family brood is up to 7 - My sisters, brother and I all spend our formative years helping dad in the shop. From collecting fish at the local train station to cleaning the potatoes and serving Fish & Chips.
1987 - I purchase the Fish & Chip shop from my father and take over the family business the day he retires
1990 - The Fish & Chip shop undergoes its first major refurbishment
1992 - The hard work pays off and to my delight, Lloyds is crowned Welsh Fish & Chip shop of the year
1994 - Lloyds wins Welsh Fish & Chip shop of the year for the 2nd time in three years (having been runner up in 1993)
2000 - My two sons and daughter follow the family tradition and each of them spends various stages of their youth helping me to run the Fish & Chip shop with my daughter Tirion still actively involved
2002 - The Fish & Chip shop is expanded to include a restaurant at 6 Bridge Street with 4 Bridge Street now the dedicated take away area, the shop undergoing its second major refurbishment
2017 - Having attained MSC accreditation and refurbished the restaurant, Lloyds wins Welsh Fish & Chip Restaurant of the year and is among the Top 10 in the UK
2020 - I am proud to launch our Click & Collect service and am excited by the developments we have planned for the next 18 months
