History

My late father Alun Lloyd first opened Lloyd’s Fish and Chip Shop in Lampeter 1949 and went on to run the business for a further 38 years.
Growing up, myself, my 5 sisters and my younger brother Mark all took an active part in helping my father to run the fish and chip shop.
After qualifying as a maths teacher and teaching in various schools in the local area for a few years, I then decided to come back to what I know best – fish and chips.

I took Lloyd’s over from my father in 1987 but being the grafter that he was, he remained a fixture of the shop’s staff well into his “retirement”.
In 1990 the shop was completely revamped and modernised to better serve our increasing number of customers and to enable us to compete in the prestigious Fish and Chip Shop of The Year competition.

The foundations laid by my father and the subsequent efforts of myself, my partner Dee and my staff were rewarded in 1992 when Lloyd’s was crowned Best Fish and Chip Shop in Wales.
We went on to be runner up in the competition in 1993 and then regained the crown in 1994.
The shop was extended to include 6 Bridge Street in 2004 meaning the shop you see today has changed dramatically since the early days of 1949.

I am always looking for new ways to expand and improve so who knows what the next 60 years holds for Lloyd’s…
